Prototype Challenge Handout for Students
STEAM Games Guide 2019
The prototype challenge will start with the delivery of a 10 minute presentation from an environmental expert. This presentation will give you some background about the outdoor space you will be designing a prototype for.
Each group will be provided with a box of materials for this challenge. These will be the only materials you will be allowed to use. You will need to balance your time with planning, budgeting, and building a prototype. At the end, each group will have 90 seconds to present to a Judge.
PrimaryChallenge: You will be given an overhead map of the outdoor space. On this map will be an area that is circled. You will be provided with a unique challenge that focuses on respecting the natural environment (watershed, animal habitats, etc), allows humans to access and learn about the outdoor space, and is built to scale with the prototype materials.
ElementaryChallenge: You will be given an overhead map of the outdoor space. On this map will be an area that is circled. You will be provided with a unique challenge that focuses on respecting the natural environment (watershed, animal habitats, etc), allows humans to access and learn about the outdoor space, and is built to scale with the prototype materials.
Junior HighChallenge: You will be given an overhead map of the outdoor space. You will be provided with a unique challenge that focuses on respecting the natural environment, allow humans to access and learn about the outdoor space, and aligns with the budget (cost does matter!).
